Wallet.dat question
Hi, so I received an old laptop from a family member with wallet.dat on it in hopes of finding long lost BTC.
I saved the folder containing wallet.dat (titled Bitcoin with blocks and chain state folders along with peers.dat file) to a flash drive and saved the contents to a newer, faster computer.
I then installed the Bitcoin Core application and spent the last week downloading the BTC blockchain from genesis.
After the chain finally synced I clicked Restore Wallet in Bitcoin Core under File and selected wallet.dat from the Bitcoin folder residing on my Desktop.
The wallet was Restored successfully and unfortunately the Balance shows 0 BTC.
My question: did I follow all of the steps correctly?
I am not seeing any past transactions under the Transactions tab, which has me hoping I did something incorrect when restoring wallet.dat. I’m inclined to think there were BTC transactions at some point with this wallet.
If someone has any ideas as to what, if anything, I did incorrectly when trying to view the balance of this wallet and I am able to recover any BTC then you have my word I will send 1% of any BTC funds to you.
