Holding btc on exchange is safe

Hello there, i heard dca and holding your btc on an online exchange is safe. Im currently doing that, buying on kraken pro, and holding there

. But i still cant fully understand the older hodlers and regular users of btc how are they keeping their bitcoins. I mean i understand the old way of downloading bitcoin software (wallet?)from bitcoin.org and you get an adress there which you use for receiving btc. Thats easiest way which i get and it doesnt required kyc.

But nowadays you see so much exchanges, wallets, ledgers, websites, tutorials. And buying online crypto is via kyc so the anonymous owning of btc is no longer there.

Im lost on which software wallet or cold wallet to use in EU, or which ones are legit and not a cheap scam. What are you using ?

I really want to hodl btc and dca in it, and when i scrape atleast 0.1-0.3 put in out of kraken. But dno where and how really.

How that og btc era changed in terms of holding btc in your hard-drive on your pc? Thx
